You are aware that the point of Kuina's character is the unfairness of the world towards women in comparison to the privileges men have, like living in itself and fulfilling their dreams, right? You know that Kuina's death is "ridiculous and dumb" because it's meant to show that even the strongest person Zoro knew could die from something so little, right? You understand that the value Zoro gives to life is fucking immense, right? Right?? You realize Zoro can't seek revenge because nobody took her away from him and now the only thing he can do is become the world's greatest swordsman to avenge her death, right? You get that Zoro's character is an atheist because he doesn't believe in anyone and he can only rely on himself when it comes to Kuina's sudden death, right? You are aware that sometimes people die in the simplest of ways and that doesn't make them weak because death doesn't discriminate, right? You know that all of these things are what make Zoro's character so interesting and important, right? Right??? You know, right?

fun detail I only put into context after seeing the post-fade jail romance scenes with all the companions: lucanis is the only one where rook is surprised when they realize he's there as he starts talking, because they didn't hear him come in haha. (Bellara and Neve knock before entering, like relatively normal people fhsda. Harding's scene starts in medias res but from the staging my vibe is that she and Rook entered the room together. Taash walks into the room ahead of Rook. Davrin comes in through a door left open for him -- Rook is standing with their back turned but they clearly expected him, they just smile a bit and don't seem surprised. Emmrich of course takes you to the Grand Necropolis for the top goth hookup since Mary Shelly fucked on her parents' graves, the man quite simply never misses.)

lucanis has also closed the door behind him without rook noticing. old assassin habits die hard I suppose lol. he totally still accidentally jumpscares the others without meaning to all the time because he moves around quietly when he doesn't think about it, I know this in my heart. I wonder if he was just... looking at them for a while before he spoke up.

Tony can be... a bit overbearing with his helicopter parent tendencies. To combat this, Peter sets up a small protocol with FRIDAY. 

Any time Tony wants to do something paranoid or invasive, FRIDAY is to send him a helpful article first, with titles like "Excessive Surveillance Can Harm Adolescent Development, Study Finds" and "Why Teens Need Privacy From Their Parents"

Peter leaves the choice of articles up to FRIDAY, trusting her to send ones that fit the situation.

While this protocol does get Tony to reconsider some of his more... extreme impractical requests, in most cases it fails to change his mind. Being hands-off about Peter's safety is not something he can do -- not when he knows the kinds of dangers this particular kid could face.

He's grateful for the insight that the protocol has given him, though. So instead of removing it, he decides to add to it. He asks FRIDAY to make it a two-way street. Now, whenever Peter complains about one of Tony's safety protocols, FRIDAY will send an article to help him understand

However, Tony doesn't anticipate the kinds of articles FRIDAY will choose. While she continues to send Tony studies and editorials, to Peter she sends news reports from Tony's past

It goes on and on. For every seemingly insane overreach, there's a story, an experience Tony is trying to protect Peter from. 

They both still disagree about how much protection is too much, but at least they understand each other better now

pretty good all things considered! while they're both married to two sweet guys and have separate families (none of their kids are other td characters, unfortunately...) they're still really close, and still live next to each other at that same beach town they grew up in, now both running that successful 80s themed ice cream business they've been dreaming of! its safe to say they probably suffered the least on Total Drama, only leaving with a couple of minor scars, good god were they lucky..

okay. okay. batfam fic. is this a really late response? who cares (the answer is no, fuck you, it's perfectly on-time)! i just had a lot i wanted to say. so... let's start. i LOVEEE having a reader that's so aware? i just think - while i adore when readers kick and scream or whimper in trained obedience or whatever - there's something so scrumptious about someone who knows they're trapped and is trying to learn to maneuver carefully (even though it all goes to shit anyway). i can't help but wonder what would happen as time goes on. or immediately in the aftermath. would reader even be able to attempt to go back to pretending everything was normal? or would it just send them straight to where they were at the start? and then i think about everyone else. how would they respond? would the reader even tell them? in an effort to maintain normalcy, would they keep it a secret from the rest of the family? or would they be so distressed they'd be unable to? and then their response would really be the deciding factor in the family's response. if they pretended it didn't happen, how long would it take them to figure it out? and how would they respond to knowing they withheld that info? if they were distressed and told them, would they explode as a family? or would it worm into their heads as... a more concrete idea? if jason did it... why can't some of the others? i mean, i bet one of them would be willing to believe that the reader wouldn't have been so upset, if they had just been the one to do it. jason's so rough and rude, even without trying. he can be so mean. no. reader should have that experience with someone who is gonna be nice to them, who wants nothing but their pleasure, over and over and over and.... well, you get the point. personally, it felt so realistic to have the reader try and be calm and rational. i'm kind of passive when it comes to confrontation. i'd prefer to keep the peace. but.... well... i'm also curious. i probably wouldn't be able to stop myself from eavesdropping or snooping, especially if i knew it concerned me. i'd want as much info as possible, even if it made me sick. sorry this is so so long i'm gonna cut it off here just want to say i LOVED the fic. your batfam is my favourite. i love how you just make them all such freaks in their own way. none of them are safe.

plans for a continuation are still solidifying and i'd hate to give two much away, but prt one was very much the reader desperately trying to prolong the 'fucking around' phase (or, the not fucking around phase? ig?), whereas we've thoroughly transitioned into the 'finding out' stage of things at the time a continuation would pick up. they're all such poorly contained freaks when everyone's still trying to pretend they don't want to fuck their step-mom, it might take a little while to figure out how they'd behave once fucking the aforementioned step-mom is up for further discussion.
